Truecaller for Android is a surprisingly useful app that provides users with an easy way to block those annoying spam callers and persistent sales calls. Not only that, but the software will tell the user if a number that recently called was a sales call or an actual person attempting to contact the user. The goal of the software is to help users find out who is calling and why before they ever pick up the phone.

The only thing this app requires is your name, email address, and phone number, and it automatically sets itself up. The interface is easy to understand and even easier to use, and it includes features that make it simple to browse through you call history, find out information about numbers that have called before, and even filter you history by several metrics.

Perhaps the most useful feature of the app is that it integrates caller ID information for every user. That means if someone using the Truecaller platform calls someone else using the system, they will see the name of the person calling and not a random number. The app also includes Yelp integration, so it will show caller ID info on any business that tries to call you as well.

Any numbers that you find to be spam or salespeople can be blocked using the app, and the process is entirely reversible. That means you can actually use the app to temporarily block numbers that you might want to contact later, including numbers you know aren't salespeople or spam. The Truecaller database has a ton of numbers that it has confirmed are spam, and users can opt to block every single one of those numbers if they wish. You can also automatically block all calls that come from hidden numbers.

The user interface is split into three main segments, which are Search, Block, and Discover. These categories are relatively self-explanatory, and it doesn't take long to figure out the full functionality of the system. Every option you could want to use is only a few taps away, and the blocking feature works like a charm.

Now that spam calls are starting to become significantly prevalent within the mobile networks, it is almost necessary to get some sort of filtering or blocking app to prevent wasted time and attention. Truecaller acts as a sort of shield that protects users against those distractions, and it provides greater detail about the callers with whom you actually want to speak. Blocking a number through this app is just as easy as blocking an email address, and since the process isn't permanent, it can be used at your discretion.

In order to fully take advantage of some of the features in Truecaller, it is recommended that Android users update to at least version 5.0 of the operating system.
